How Trix-C learned “get mom”
“Get mom” is when I specifically send Trix-C to wake up my mom in the middle of the night when I need help with something
- We started with the “end point.” She had to nudge my mom while she was laying down on her bed. and for Trix-C this was easy because mom placed her food under or around her and trix-C dug in.
- Then we started moving away from the bed and mom and said “get mom”
- Trix-C started doing well, but toward middle of the process she begun to loose interest. So we begun to use tastier food. After that Trix-C was very interested
- We begun to move quickly away from my mom’s room to living room to my bedroom.
- When we started using the tastier food, we only did it 2 times a day.
- The next step was to teach it while I was actually on my bed because for dogs if you change even the slightest thing they think is a new thing
- It’s been a slow process but its been well worth the wait.

I'm only human
After a week of not training, trix-c and I were beginning to get bored. I was getting worried she wasn't getting the exercise she needed. After yesterday morning, I realized I wasn't giving my Old girl enough credit. I didn't think she was going to do as well as she did yesterday. We mastered the teeter, to a certain extent. We are learning to go over 3 jumps at a time. It looks and sounds pretty easy, but it's not.
I am used to handling trix-C on my right, and I have to change now to my left for agility. It feels awkward and uncomfortable. In spite of this, we did pretty good.
I am also learning to cue trix-C using body language, like turning my neck to whichever side I want her to go.
P. S. Thank you so much Tammy you're the best.
my power chair broke
Last Saturday my power chair broke down, first thing I thought was how am I going to handle trix-C. It is difficult because in my manual chair someone has to push me. She already knows all my power chair cues, but it's way different in my manual chair.

How and why I got started on this adventure!
My heart has been set on getting a service dog for sometime, finally the time had come. Through lots of prayer, sweat and anxiety I finally got Trix-C. (The process of getting a dog and trainer was a whirlwind, so that's a story for another time.) So here we are my girl and I, Trix-C is an exceptional dog and she is truly an amazing blessing! My girl is a Belgium Malinois, and she is 9 or 10 yrs old. Trix-C has a very extensive and impressive resume. She is truly a working girl!
its a mystery to how I went from a lonely pathetic college student who wanted a buddy to a person who cant get enough of dog training.
